
Causeways and connectivity: How the GCC is rewiring regional integration
While some countries are putting in place barriers to trade, the GCC region is keeping markets open to foreign investment.
Prior to his appointment as Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, H.E. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa held several senior leadership positions in diplomacy and public service. These included serving as Undersecretary for Political Affairs and Undersecretary for International Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Secretary-General of the Supreme Defense Council, and Director General of External Communication at the Information Affairs Authority.
His Excellency possesses extensive professional, academic, and research experience in diplomacy, international relations, law, mediation, intercultural dialogue, and sustainable development. Through these roles, he has played a significant role in strengthening the Kingdom of Bahrain’s bilateral and multilateral relations at both regional and international levels, while supporting national efforts to promote peaceful coexistence, dialogue among civilizations, and strategic policy analysis.
In addition to his current role as Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, H.E. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence since 2023, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat) since 2017.
His Excellency holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and Diplomacy from L'École des Hautes Études Internationals et Politiques in Paris, a Master’s degree in Law from Queen Mary University of London, and a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Applied Science University in Jordan.
H.E. Dr. Shaikh Abdullah has received several prestigious honors, including the Order of Competence (First Class) awarded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain in 2018 and the Prince Salman bin Hamad Medal for Medical Merit in 2021.
