Quantum Communications and Networking Lead, HSBC

Alejandro R.-P. Montblanch, PhD Cantab., leads the quantum communication and networking efforts at HSBC, where he helps shape the bank’s cybersecurity strategy for the migration to quantum-safe cryptography and R&D on quantum communications and networks. At HSBC, he is driving pioneering initiatives, including early pilots of quantum key distribution for financial applications, the development of cryptographic inventory frameworks, advancing post-quantum cryptography adoption, and collaborating with regulators to explore quantum technologies for financial resilience. His work in HSBC and prior institutions has been covered by the most important global media outlets and has been recognised with several awards. Dr. Montblanch has over 10 years of experience working with the most advanced quantum technologies in elite institutions, has published in the leading scientific journals in the world, including Nature, holds a PhD in Quantum Physics from Cambridge, was a visiting scholar at Harvard, and holds two master’s degrees in Physics and Mathematics.
