Dr. Faisal Khan is a distinguished biologist, technology innovator and policy entrepreneur. With a unique blend of academic excellence, real-world translation and policy leadership, Dr. Khan serves as a catalyst for building multi-stakeholder ecosystems that drive cutting-edge science with real-world impact. He is a staunch advocate for 'home-grown, world-class' science, with a commitment to advancing emerging technologies that address global challenges, especially in underrepresented regions.
For over a decade, Dr. Khan's interdisciplinary laboratory has pioneered work in genomics, systems biology, synthetic biology, space medicine and cancer biology. His team led the federally-funded precision medicine pilot (2018–present) and the flagship SynBioKP (2015–17) projects. He is also Director of the Centre for Genomic Sciences at Rehman Medical Institute and the Joint Centre for Bioeconomy, and his strategic influence extends both nationally and internationally, having advised and served on boards across sectors such as Science and Technology, Higher Education, Emerging Technologies, Industry, Commerce, Youth Innovation, and Climate Change.
Dr. Khan is an active member of several global fora, including the Forum for Young Global Leaders at the World Economic Forum, the Global Future Councils on Synthetic Biology (2021–24) and Generative Biology (2025–). In 2021, Dr. Khan was appointed Advisor to the Minister for Science and Technology in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan, where he designed and implemented the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Science Agenda in 2022.
Dr. Khan's was an HEC and a Noon scholar at the University of Oxford, where he earned his Masters and Doctorate in Cell and Systems Biology. His leadership training continued at the Judge Business School (Innovation and Entrepreneurship, 2011), Saïd Business School (Strategy and Innovation, 2012), Harvard Medical School (Cancer Biology and Therapeutics, 2019), and Harvard Kennedy School (Public Policy and Global Leadership, 2024).
