Cities need thermal justice. Here's what that really means
The concept of thermal justice is gathering pace in academic and policymaking circles – but a fixed definition has until now been conspicuously missing.
Lucas Gobatti is a Lecturer at ETH Zurich and an urban heat PhD researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag). His work lies at the intersection of cities, climate and equity. He develops evidence and decision-support tools to help cities plan fairer responses to extreme heat, with a particular focus on thermal justice, urban greening, water management and blue-green infrastructure.
