Chief Sustainability Officer; Head, Innovation, Digitalization and Sustainability, STRABAG

Dr.-Ing. Marco Xaver Bornschlegl has 10+ years management and leadership expierience in different IT, digitalization, and sustainability management positions within large international construction, engineering, and services groups. Since 2016 he is CISO and since 2020 he leads the central division STRABAG Innovation and Digitalization of the STRABAG Group. In this context, he is responsible for the definition of the information security, innovation, sustainability, and digitalization strategy of the STRABAG group. Moreover, he is a habilitation candidate at the University of Hagen.

Marco Xaver Bornschlegl received his B.Sc. degree in applied computer science and his M.Sc. degree in information technology at the Mannheim university of applied sciences and was a fellow in the Klaus Murmann Fellowship Programme of the Foundation of the German Economy (Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft, sdw), which is directed toward outstanding, socially committed students and doctoral candidates who exhibit potential for taking on leadership responsibilities in business and society, until successful completion of his studies. Furthermore, he received two additional scholarships (Mannheim Model Mid-Tier Industry Scholarship), from leading companies in the metropolitan area Rhein-Neckar. He completed his bachelor and master studies with honors and for his master thesis he received an award from a leading German engineering association (IfKom e.V.). At the SEDE 2017 conference in San Diego, CA, his research paper has been distinguished with the best paper award. For his innovative approach, he was awarded 2018 and 2019 with the Confare IDEAward for digital pioneers and innovators who successfully face the challenges of digital transformation and thus strengthen the sustainability of the German and Austrian economy. He completed his dissertation with summa cum laude and his PHD thesis was awarded as an outstanding PHD thesis in the area of computer science (Bernd Pederzani Memorial Award). Furthermore, his dissertation was included in the anthology "Excellent Computer Science Dissertations 2019" of the German Society for Computer Science (GI), the Swiss Computer Science Society (SI), and the Austrian Computer Society (OCG). He was also mentioned as an action leader (Wall Street Journal) in the field of artificial intelligence.
