Global Head, Philanthropy, Lombard Odier Group

Dr. Maximilian Martin is Lombard Odier’s Global Head of Philanthropy and led the ICRC’s “Humanitarian Impact Bond” (2017-2022). He is also a Senior Fellow at IMD Business School’s elea Center for Social Innovation. A pioneer in impact investing, Max created Europe’s first social entrepreneurship course (2003) and first philanthropic services at UBS (2004-2009).

He coined terms like “impact economy” and “corporate impact venturing” and founded Impact Economy. He authored the UK Cabinet Office’s primer on impact investing (2013). Max holds degrees from Indiana, Harvard, and Hamburg, and authored “Building the Impact Economy” (2016). His focus is on sustainable value creation.

He is currently a member of the Global Future Council (GFC) of Innovative Financing for Nature and Climate (2025-2026), and was previously a member of the GFC on the Future of Philanthropy for Climate and Nature (2023-2024).
