With around 30 years of experience in financial services industry (mostly in commercial banking), Sunarso leads Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), the largest micro and ultra-micro bank in Indonesia. He was appointed as the President Director of BRI based on the resolution of the Extraordinary Meeting of Shareholders on 2 September 2019.
Sunarso previously served as Vice President Director of BRI in 2019, President Director of Pegadaian in 2017 - 2019, Vice President Director of BRI in 2015 - 2017, and Commercial & Business Banking Director of Bank Mandiri in 2010-2015.
