GPS could help predict earthquakes 2 hours before they strike

A team looked at data from 3,000 GPS stations near 90 major historical quakes. The stations report their precise global position every 5 minutes. For 2 days before each quake, nothing happened but in the final 2 hours, the sensors began to slide. Signalling a major event was close. However, we can’t predict future earthquakes yet because for a single sensor to detect these changes in real-time, rather than from historical data it would need to be 100 times more sensitive than sensors today.
