Scientists have 3D-printed a robot hand with bones, ligaments and tendons

This world-first was made possible by a new technique which combines 3D printing with a laser scanner. This enables soft polymers to be printed, as well as hard. The technique was invented by MIT spin-off Inkbit and optimised by researchers at ETH Zürich. Robots made from soft materials have several advantages, say the scientists. They pose less risk of injury to humans and they’re better at handling fragile items.
