How Mediterranean Diet Could Cut Dementia Risk by a Quarter

Scientists say a diet rich in seafood and plant-based foods can help guard against dementia, regardless of your genetic risk. They used data from 60,000 people in the UK Biobank study. At the start of the study, all were aged 40-69. After 9 years, 882 had developed dementia, but the risk was 23% lower in people who followed a ‘Mediterranean diet’. The Mediterranean diet is full of whole grains, fruit, vegetables, fish, beans and nuts. It’s renowned globally as a ticket to good health and is linked to less diabetes, greater bone density and better heart health, which can help prevent dementia. Watch to learn more.
