Building Strategic Intelligence Series 2021 - Energy in Transformation - English

The current energy crisis sparked by the war in Ukraine has brought energy security and costs back to the forefront after years of relative energy abundance and affordability. At the same time, the window to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees is closing fast. Despite progress in innovation and deployment of renewable energies and clean energy, the world’s energy system still largely relies on fossil fuels, with emissions from energy consumption and production representing around 70% of global emissions. How to ensure affordable and secure energy supplies today while simultaneously moving more aggressively to achieve long-term climate goals? In this episode of Our World in Transformation, David Victor will tell participants more about the consequences of the current energy crisis and what can be done to ensure the pace of energy transition to net-zero can be accelerated in 2022 and beyond.
