Campaigners Are Urging People Not to Mow Their Lawns in May

The UK organizers of No Mow May say you can ‘free the wildflowers in your lawn’. Providing a feast for pollinators as the greenery grows while locking away CO2 underground and absorbing pollution from the air. Wild plants and fungi are foundational to the web of life but 40% of plant species worldwide are at risk of extinction mainly due to the destruction of wild habitat. Mowing grass too short can cut the tops off flowering plants leaving nowhere for pollinators such as bees and butterflies to feed, rest and nest. No Mow May was created by the UK charity Plantlife.
