Climate Change Is Altering the Way Trees Grow

Trees in cooler climates are growing 77% faster than a century ago as rising temperatures mean longer growing seasons. But this faster growth produces lower-density wood. Wood density has fallen by 8-12% over the past century and trees’ carbon content has fallen at the same time. Scientists say this suggests faster-growing trees are absorbing less CO2.
