This disused coal mine is now a source of sustainable energy

The UK’s coal industry left behind an extensive underground legacy. It’s thought that 25% of UK homes and businesses sit above coalfields. After decades of disuse, many of these tunnels have filled with water. This water is warmed naturally by geothermal energy and can then be used to heat buildings above ground.
