Drought is throttling one of the world's most important trade routes
More than 14,000 ships pass through the Panama Canal every year but a drought is shrinking the lake that feeds the canal. Usually 36 ships are allowed through the canal each day. In July, the Panama Canal Authority cut this to 32 in an effort to save water until the drought lifts.
