France's Longest River Is Suffering From a Historic Drought

At this time of the year, the Loire is normally swollen with snow-melt but water levels are now so low that sandbanks are exposed, leaving locals concerned about water shortages. France is facing one of its worst winter droughts in history. This winter, there were 32 consecutive days with precipitation below 1mm, a record since 1959. February saw 75% less rainfall than usual.
