Greenhouse gas emissions in the US fell by 2% last year even as its economy grew

The fall was driven by declining coal consumption with help from a mild winter that eased demand for fossil fuels. The US economy, meanwhile, grew by 2.4% in 2023. CO2 emissions from coal-fired power plants in the US fell 8%. While lower demand for heating lead to a 4% fall in emissions from buildings.
