The world just had its hottest day ever - twice in one week

On 21 July, the average global temperature peaked at 17.09˚C, a record high. The next day it hit 17.15˚C. Breaking the previous day’s record. But what’s really staggering, say scientists, are the highs set over the past year and how they compare with the highs recorded in preceding decades.
