How Mexico City Cut Serious Crime by 50%

In 2018, Mexico City was a hotspot for serious felonies. The country’s murder rates had hit a record high, rising by a third in one year. Only 7% of residents considered the capital a safe place to live. That year, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo became city mayor. The first woman to hold the position. She took a new approach to tackling crime by putting data at the centre of a comprehensive crime reduction programme.
