Paris Is the Most Dangerous City in Europe for Heat-Related Deaths

Amsterdam and Zagreb are the 2nd and 3rd riskiest cities according to a study in The Lancet. Parisians of all ages are at more risk of overheating than anywhere else and for those aged 85 or over, the risk is 1.6 times greater than in other cities. Climate change is making heatwaves more frequent and intense. Cities are on average 5-9˚C warmer than rural areas. Just 10% of Paris is covered in cooling green spaces. While the city’s traditional zinc roofs exacerbate the problem by absorbing heat. Some experts think temperatures in Paris could hit 50˚C by 2050.
