California says all new phones must be repairable for 7 years

The US state has passed a sweeping right-to-repair law. Tech companies will have to make replacement parts available along with the right tools and software updates so Californians can keep their gadgets running for longer snd cut back on electronic waste. The law applies from July 2024 and covers devices sold after 1 July 2021 including smartphones, laptops and TVs.
