Protecting the ocean doesn’t hamper coastal economies. It helps them

Marine Protected Areas (MPA) have been in use for decades. MPAs restrict what can be caught or collected within their boundaries. Critics say MPAs constrict these local ocean-dependent economies But a new study shows MPAs have the opposite effect. They act as reservoirs that replenish nearby fisheries, boosting catch sizes and giving stocks space to recover.
