Scientists Have Invented a Jellyfish Robot to Clean Up the Ocean
Jellyfish-Bot is about the size of your hand. It’s made of artificial muscles called HASELs. They expand and contract when electric currents pass through them. Working together, these muscles propel the robot through the water like a jellyfish but that’s not the only similarity. As jellyfish swim, their movement creates currents that trap nutrients . Jellyfish-Bot works in the same way though it gathers waste plastic particles from the seafloor instead, as well as fragile biological samples, such as fish eggs.
