Scientists in Singapore Are Turning Waste Paper Into Batteries for Smartphones

They expose the paper to high temperatures which reduce it to pure carbon. The carbon can be turned into electrodes for batteries that power everything from smartphones to electric vehicles. They’re more environmentally friendly than ordinary electrodes which need heavy metals and lots of energy to produce. They’re also much cheaper to make.
