Spain is using olive stones as fuel

Spain is left with 400,000 tonnes of olive stones a year as a by-product of producing olive oil. Turned into biofuel, they’re a cheaper, cleaner alternative to fossil fuels, emitting much lower quantities of CO2. Spain is the world’s leading olive oil producer, providing roughly half the planet’s supply. By reusing olive stones, it cuts back on farm waste and also reduces demand for imported fossil fuels.
