The US Is Making It Easier for Gay and Bisexual Men to Give Blood

Every prospective blood donor will now be screened the same way, whatever their sexual orientation. Until recently, gay and bisexual men were banned from donating blood altogether. The original ban was implemented in 1983 during the AIDS epidemic. It was intended to stop the spread of HIV through blood supplies but since then, scientific advances have nearly eliminated HIV transmission through blood.
