This No-Fishing Zone in Mexico Has Boosted Biodiversity. Without Harming Fishing

Mexico established the Revillagigedo National Park in 2017. It’s the largest no-take marine protected area (MPA) in North America, stretching over 147,000km2. Scientists measured fishing catch in the 4 years before and after the ban. They found the zone had little impact on catch volumes. Going against claims by Mexico’s $1 billion fishing industry that the MPA could reduce fish landings by 20%.
