In the UK, 10,000 oysters have been released into an artificial reef

The new reef is made from 827 tonnes of scallop shells and stones. It’s as big as a football pitch and was laid on the seabed off England’s north-east coast by the Wild Oysters Project. The oysters released are a native species, Ostrea edulis. They were once common in the UK but have declined 95% since the 1800s due to overharvesting and habitat loss.
