Social scientists have long drawn a link between our health and the work we do. Manual roles such as logging, roofing, and iron and steelwork remain the most dangerous. But a rise in sedentary roles has contributed to other lifestyle-related illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and osteoporosis. Research has shown that even having little control over one’s work can trigger the onset of stress and disease.
