These 'mystery' bags are fighting food waste in China

This video is part of: Centre for Nature and Climate

Who doesn’t love a lucky dip? This Chinese start-up matches hungry people with surplus food that would otherwise be chucked out by restaurants and retailers. Customers book a ‘magic bag’ via a mobile app – but they have no idea what delicious treats they will find inside. This clever idea is cutting FoodWaste in China; it has already saved 5,000 tonnes of food from landfill and averted 13,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Xishi Magic Bag founder Luona Cai is part of the Global Shapers Community, a World Economic Forum initiative that comprises more than 11,000 young innovators, activists and changemakers from around the world.
