Take a breath with this weekly series that goes beyond the headline noise to curate thoughtful expert takes and one-of-a-kind features that put the world's biggest changes into fresh context.

The stat
The cancer-care lottery

A new World Health Organization study shows 20 million people globally were diagnosed with cancer in 2022, yet only 39% of countries are providing adequate funding for cancer care and treatment. Big discrepancies exist between developing and developed nations.

Hear about 'Value Based Healthcare' - a system where quality of care, rather than the quantity of procedures drives the funding - in this episode of Radio Davos.

The opportunity
Shoring up the cyber defences with AI

AI applications will help protect against cyberattacks. But understanding the risks and rewards, and global collaboration on AI governance, will be critical to unlock the full potential of AI for cybersecurity.

More here from the Forum on why there's a global shortage of 4 million cyber geeks, and how to bridge the gap.

The take
Calling all green workers! (not literally)

Green skills are in high demand, according to LinkedIn, where job postings outpace workers with the right skillset. "The efforts around climate are increasing exponentially. With all of that effort comes a lot of hiring", says Allen Blue, co-founder of LinkedIn.

Good news. The World Economic Forum’s Reskilling Revolution - the platform bringing together more than 350 organizations to provide 1 billion people with better education, skills and economic opportunities by 2030 - is focusing over half of its efforts on preparing workers for green jobs.

The shift
How tech can keep trade moving

Global trade has been hit by conflict, protectionism and geopolitical tensions, while some of the world's most used waterways have been facing a dry spell. It's not all bad news, though. Less paper, more TradeTech at borders could ease the flows.

And guess what? Global cooperation is still a thing. Find out where it's happening in the Forum's Global Cooperation Barometer.
