More people now cycle than drive in central Paris

Parisians are increasingly opting for bicycles over cars for their city-center trips. A recent study shows that cycling now accounts for 11% of journeys within the city center, compared to only 4% for cars. This significant shift reflects a growing enthusiasm for cycling in Paris.
Here's how Paris paved the way for cycling
This cycling boom can be attributed in part to the city's ambitious cycling plan, Le Plan Vélo. Launched in 2015, the plan has seen substantial investments in cycling infrastructure.
Over €70 million was poured into creating new cycle paths, along with €6 million for bicycle parking facilities. By 2021, Paris boasted an impressive 1,100 kilometers of cycling lanes.
The success of Le Plan Vélo has paved the way for Plan Vélo: Act 2, which runs from 2021 to 2026. This ambitious plan aims to transform Paris into a true "100% cycling city."
The future of urban mobility
The World Economic Forum's Urban Mobility Scorecard Tool report highlights the importance of investing in cycling and walking infrastructure as part of creating sustainable future cities.
Paris serves as a prime example of how such investments can lead to a significant shift towards cleaner and more efficient transportation options.
