This woman’s daughter was burned by a cooking stove. So she created a safer stove for everyone

When Charlot Magayi’s daughter was two, she suffered severe burns on an open cooking stove. The tragedy inspired Magayi to create Mukuru Clean Stoves, which solve three key problems: cooking safety, indoor air pollution and the cost of fuel. Her special smokeless briquettes - made from agricultural waste - even repel the mosquitoes that carry malaria. Here, she talks us through the inspiration and effort behind her game-changing innovation. Charlot Magayi is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, part of a network of 1,400 people who are driving positive change in their communities and beyond.
