Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the planet’s biggest health threats, contributing to almost 5 million deaths a year. Already, 1 in 6 bacterial infections are resistant to medication - and experts say that by 2050, it could be as many as 7 in 10. Here, Jeffrey Sturchio, Co-Chair of the Global Future Council on Antimicrobial Resistance, outlines 4 steps the world needs to take to prevent and prepare for the coming wave of AMR - from developing new antimicrobial drugs to educating people about how to use them.
