This historic deal will cut shipping emissions

A majority of countries in the International Maritime Organization have made a groundbreaking agreement to steer shipping towards decarbonization, reaching net zero by 2050. Ship owners will have to switch to cleaner fuels with the limits getting stricter over time. Those who don’t reduce their emissions intensity 30% by 2035 on 2008 levels and 65% by 2040 will have to buy ‘remedial units’.
