The Forum’s Retail, Consumer Goods and Lifestyle Community is an exclusive community of peers, working closely with the Agriculture, Food and Beverage Community. Chief executives and chairs constitute the Industry Governors, who provide leadership, define the industry agenda and drive change for the broader Consumer Industries.  Industry AgendaThe Consumer Industry Community Governors have identified three strategic pillars to guide industry transformation while ensuring positive outcome for business and society: Well-being: By 2050, a global population of 9.7 billion will need 70% more food than is consumed today. The Forum’s System Initiative on Shaping the Future of Food Security and Agriculture explores ways to feed this expanded population nutritiously and sustainably through improvements to the global food system. This includes:

  • Harnessing technology and innovation to nourish the world without harming the planet through Innovation with a Purpose;

  • Advancing 20 multistakeholder, country-led partnerships catalysed by the New Vision for Agriculture (NVA) initiative;

  • The Human-Centric Health project explores the industry’s role in public-private cooperation for preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

 Resource sustainability: The industry faces the challenge of how to achieve inclusive economic growth while combating climate change and other natural resource challenges. The Forum’s System Initiative on Shaping the Future of Environment and Natural Resource Security responds through initiatives including:

  • The CEO Climate Leaders and Friends of Climate Action, two public-private networks shaping the global climate agenda following the Paris Agreement;

  • The Platform for Accelerating the Circular Economy, creating regional, national and sub-national public-private networks to help governments develop replicable strategies and prototype transformations at speed and scale;

  • The Tropical Forest Alliance 2020, which supports commitments to reduce the tropical deforestation associated with sourcing forest-risk commodities (soy, paper and pulp, palm oil, beef) by 2020;

  • The Global Water Initiative, which supports large-scale public-private partnerships, including the UN/World Bank convened High Level Panel on Water and the 2030 Water Resources Group.

 Technological disruption: Technological disruption has the potential to enhance consumption models to bring sustainable benefits to business and society. The Forum’s System Initiative on Shaping the Future of Consumption explores this potential, for example via:
