China has just set a major new climate goal

This video is part of: Centre for Nature and Climate

China has set itself a huge new climate goal - but will it be enough? For the first time ever, China has announced an absolute target for reducing its emissions. It has pledged a 7-10% cut by 2035 – equivalent to saving 4 times the UK’s annual emissions. Some critics argue that although huge, this won’t be nearly enough to meet global climate goals. China is also building new coal plants faster than at any time in the past decade. Others, however, point to China’s world-beating rollout of renewables - and its track record in beating its own targets.
