Renewables have started generating more electricity than coal

The planet has achieved a historic first as, in the first half of 2025, renewables produced more electricity than coal. Global electricity demand actually grew in that time - but a surge in new solar and wind capacity more than covered the increase. In total, renewables' share of the energy mix grew to 34.3%, while coal generation fell to 33.1%. Find out more in this video, along with three more recent noteworthy stories from the energy sector.
