Research funding is one of the 'greatest inventions' say Nobel scientists

What do biologist Victor Ambros and chemist Thomas Cech have in common? Besides the fact that they are both Nobel Prize-winning scientists, the pair agree that their feats would have been impossible without publicly funded research. That's because grant-funded research allows scientists to follow their curiosity in the lab without the need for a commercial payout demanded by private funding. Ambros and Cech, along with UC Berkeley Chancellor Rich Lyons and and Yale University astrophysicist Priya Natarajan, explain how societies can pave the way for the treatments of tomorrow by publicly funding science today.
