This giant heat pump uses seawater to heat 25,000 homes

It’s part of a plan to replace coal power in the Danish city of Esbjerg and it’s the biggest heat pump of its kind in the world. The plant in Esbjerg uses 2 heat pumps working in parallel. They use seawater as a heat source and CO2 as a refrigerant. Together they pull in 14,000 m3 of seawater every hour and deliver hot water to homes and businesses at temperatures of 60-90˚C.
