From gender stereotyping to lack of access to finance, women entrepreneurs can face obstacles because of their gender, especially in the developing world. Cherie Blair launched the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women to address these gaps and support women business owners.
Cherie Blair, a lawyer and advocate for women entrepreneurs, highlights three major obstacles women face in business: gender stereotyping, access to finance, and unpaid care duties.

Overcoming gender stereotypes
Stereotypes often suggest that certain roles are not suited for women, limiting their opportunities in politics and business. These biases also affect women's confidence. Blair emphasizes the importance of role models and confidence-building initiatives to challenge these perceptions.
Addressing unpaid care work
Women globally spend three times more hours than men on unpaid care work, a burden that limits their business opportunities. Providing better childcare and elder care solutions could help women balance these responsibilities while pursuing entrepreneurship.
The role of technology and investment in women
Blair’s foundation supports women entrepreneurs through online mentoring and a business skills app. She stresses that investing in women benefits not just individuals, but also families, communities, and economies.
Despite progress, the gender gap in economic participation has only closed by 60.5%. At the current rate, full equality won’t be reached until 2176. How does your country support women in business?
